Family psychotherapy can be very helpful for families experiencing a host of different situations, such as blending families, parenting, addiction and divorce, to name just a few. A therapist can help to provide insight into the family system by intervening when patterns of behavior in the family are not working as effectively as they could be, or had been working in the past. Additionally, when working with children, it is essential to have the family involved in therapy as this is where change is most likely to occur. When the family system makes a change, it becomes possible for the individuals making up that system to also make changes, which are often long-lasting and may benefit everyone in the family.
